Pepitas (Pumpkin seeds)
Pepitas (Pumpkin Seeds)
They are definitely starting to get more attention as a tasty healthy seed option.
These little green seeds are full of nutrients and should be part of everyone’s snack options. They are mostly known for their high level of zinc, but they also contain high levels of omega 3 fatty acids. The other nutrients they are high in include iron, calcium and phosphorus with some magnesium and copper. Good levels of Vitamin E, plus a mix of B vitamins with niacin (B3) being the richest. They are a good source of protein with a good balance of amino acids. They mostly contain the good unsaturated fat too.
They are known to be beneficial for the treatment or prevention of any prostate issues. They have also been known to help treat intestinal worms such as round worm and tape worm. Beneficial in helping with motion sickness, nausea and impotency.
They are usually eaten raw on their own or added to nut mixes but you can also roast them or blend them into a seed meal which could be added to cereal, salads, yoghurt, smoothies etc.
So grab a handful of pepitas for your next snack and know you are getting a handful of nutrition.
If you can get your hands on the larger darker green Austrian pumpkin seed you will find they have more flavour and you don’t need to eat as many.
