Healing Beef Bone Broth

A delicious broth you can have as a drink instead of your morning tea or coffee, or perhaps as a snack, or add it as a stock to soup bases and any other recipes that require a stock.

This recipe is FODMAP friendly and helps to heal a sensitive digestive system.

1 ½kg organic beef bones – marrow bones preferred and sawn in half
1 large thumb of fresh ginger roughly sliced – leave skin on if not very thick
3cm fresh turmeric
Garlic infused oil (optional)
3 green onions (shallots) – green part only
2 cinnamon sticks
4 star anise
2 carrots roughly chopped
A few stalks of celery roughly chopped
2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar
Slurp of olive oil
2 teaspoons sea salt
Generous grind black pepper
Water

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C.
  2. Place beef bones on an oven tray. Throw on garlic oil, green onions and all the spices. Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with sea salt and black pepper. Bake in the oven for 20-30 minutes to brown the bones and roast the spices.
  3. Put everything into the slow cooker. Add everything else and fill the pot with water and sit for a good hour.
  4. After an hour of soaking, switch the cooker on low and leave it anywhere from 24-30 hours.
  5. Scoop out the spice bits and pour into large glass jars (or small serving size jars). Leave the fat on top when it cools.
  6. Lasts weeks in the fridge and can be frozen.
