They are mostly eaten raw and have a pungent and bitter flavour which is good to get digestion going. Daikon radish is not as pungent and not bitter. Daikon radish are longer, larger and white.
They are quite high in vitamin C. Just 1/2 a cup can give you around 15% of your daily dose! They also contain minerals calcium, magnesium, some iron and vitamin B6.
They are great to help reduce mucus, especially in the lungs. Radish can help clear the sinuses, hoarseness, phlegm and sore throats.
Can be good to relieve from indigestion and tummy bloating. Fresh Daikon can help digest oily foods. Cooked Daikon can help dissolve fat.
They can be helpful for nose bleeds and occipital headaches.
They are also a detoxifier – great addition when doing a detox or just wanting daily detox support.
They have been a traditional Western remedy for gallstones, kidney and bladder stones – Just 1 tablespoon grated radish daily for several weeks.
To get the above benefits: Several radishes 2-3 daily or 1/2 cup radish juice twice a day.
