Bananas

Bananas

Such versatile and tasty fruit.  They are such a great snack to take with you anywhere you go, or blend into smoothies, bake into healthy banana bread (stay tuned working on a healthier tasty banana bread recipe…), have them with your breakfast cereal etc.  They are high in potassium and contain iron, selenium and magnesium.  Bananas are great for diarrhoea, but too many can then cause constipation, great to detox the body, help with sugar cravings epecially when withdrawing from alcoholism, good to help reduce blood pressure and generally are easy to digest.  If you are hungry and its near bedtime, don’t go to bed hungry and disturb your sleep, have a banana which will help promote good sleep as the magnesium and potassium have a relaxing effect without burdening your digestive system.
Have you seen red bananas?  They were actually the first bananas that Canada had in the 1800’s coming from predominately South East Asia.  They are usually smaller but with thicker skin so less banana inside than the more popular Cavendish.  Red bananas contain more vitamin C and beta carotene than the yellow banana.  The redder they are, the more beta carotene they contain! They also contain iron and potassium.?
