Blackberry

Blackberry

These darker and not so well known (in Australia) berries are actually very closely related to raspberries.

The blackberry has similar astringent and blood building properties to the raspberry. (have a read here of my previous post on raspberries – https://www.balancingnutrition.com/?p=617)

Blackberries in particular can be used to treat diarrhoea, anaemia and can help control excessive and frequent urination.

Being darker in colour they have different antioxidants to raspberries.

Their Australian season is November to May, so perfect to start eating right now. Keep your eye out. I get mine from a specialised fruit and vegetable shop.

My second favourite berry after the raspberry.

Have you tried blackberries before?
