Nori

Nori

Nori is the most commonly used seaweed and has mostly received its claim to fame as being the sheet that holds your sushi together!  Australian’s no longer just see this fantastic sea vegetable as something that has just washed up on the beach.
This seaweed sheet is nearly 50% protein and is high in fibre.  It’s the most easily digested of the seaweeds.  Nori is high in Vitamin A, vitamins B1 and B3, calcium, iodine, iron and phosphorus.  It contains some great phytonutrients too.
Nori can be beneficial for helping to decrease cholesterol, help reduce swelling, high blood pressure and aids in digestion amongst other things.
Seaweeds are getting more recognition for how healthy they are since sushi rolls became so popular in the west.  It can be used as the sheet and wrapped around things, try a nori wrap instead of using a bread-based wrap for lunch.  They can be crisped up in an oven on low (140 degree C) until colour just changes and eat them like chips, cut into strips or crumble over salads, casseroles, dressings, soups etc.  So many ways we can eat more seaweed.
You can also buy them already oven roasted and seasoned, so have a look out for these healthy snacks instead of grabbing a packet of chips.
