Did you know? Phytonutrients

You may have noticed in my food of the week I often mention what phytonutrients that particular food has.  But do you actually know what a phytonutrient is?

Phytonutrients simply means plant nutrients and is the substances in plants that provide specific health benefits.  They are what’s left over in the plant when you take out the vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, fats and proteins.

The food’s phytonutrients is important in how we view, smell and taste food as they contribute to the colour, smell and taste.
